Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez was born in Mexico and is an American-Mexican actress. She sings as well. Her mom raised her in the USA and she was subject to numerous racial slurs that left her feeling like someone who was not wanted. When she was in 9th grade she felt more secure after being acknowledged by her teachers as a success when she sang at the school's audition. This not only increased her confidence but also shifted her career ambition. At the age of 22, she graduated the Julliard School of New York. In 1993 she made her Broadway debut with Paul Simon's The Capeman. Her first film was titled You've got Mail. The part of The lad from The Lake is her greatest breakthrough, bringing herself the Tony Award in addition to critical acclaim for her performance. The recognition grew even more for her appearance on Grey's Anatomy on ABC as Dr. Callie Torres. An accomplished singer, she's also produced songs as well as an extended piece. As an activist, she is a tireless advocate to promote LGBT equality.
